I speak to women every day who are struggling with symptoms of hormonal imbalance. They tell me they don't feel like themselves any more. They're struggling to get through the work day. They've lost their motivation. Plus, they feel guilty because they're easily triggered, snapping at their partners and kids.
They aren't enjoying life like they used to. They just want to feel like themselves again. Does this sound familiar, ? Besides the sleep, energy and mood changes women experience after 40, I hear a lot of questions about nutrition and digestive symptoms, like bloating, in my practice. Bloating can be caused by:
- Hormone imbalances - too much estrogen or too much testosterone, or the balance is off between estrogen and progesterone.
- Hormone deficiencies - not enough estrogen or not enough progesterone
- The time of your cycle - the week or two before your period and during your period are times when bloating can be at it's worst, and of course, it's all the more obvious in perimenopause.
- A sluggish digestive system - food not being digested well enough, mild constipation, too much salt, not enough water, not enough fiber or too many raw foods can all disrupt the delicate balance in your gut.
- Stress - makes all of the other four causes I just told you about even more severe, yuck!
I know, it can be confusing and frustrating to try and figure it all out on your own - but you don't need to do that!
